Week three had the log split further into semi-final contenders, some hopefuls and the hope and hapless. There were some high-scoring games, with Pukke impressing at home and table topping Tukkies flying high after three unbeaten outings.
It looks like next week’s showdown of Tukkies vs UCT in Pretoria will be an all important match to decide who gets to play in the semis and where! The cruel reality for UCT fans is that there is no TV coverage and no fan zone for this cracker of a game. uctrfc.co.za will keep you posted.
UCT v UJ - 32:12
The Ikey Tigers dominated and even though UJ tried hard and had good phases of play, the cape students had affairs under control and the windy conditions waxed. The much lauded and well funded UJ will have to produce the goods quickly if they want to catch the semi’s train.
TUT vs Tuks - 9:45
Tshwane University of Technology got smashed hard at home for the second week running, this time by 2008 semi-finalists Tukkies. Lokal rivals Tuks (University of Pretoria) ran in a whopping seven tries and underlined their VC final aspirations by keeping their try-line clear and the home-side down to three penalties. Winless TUT will have their own final against NMMU by the looks of it.
Shimlas vs Maties – 5:26
Maties also made it three out of three, but again didn’t manage to score a fourth try for a crucial bonus point. They are sitting comfortably at second, with UCT pusing hard, albeit having lost the opener. Ikeys fans will be interested to hear that hooker JP Koster graced the maroon bench against Shimlas. The Bloemfontein outfit on the other hand already have their backs to the wall and need to up their game significantly to be semi final contenders.
Pukke vs NMMU - 41:13
Pukke dominated the poor visitors from PE and scored a massive victory that came garnished with a bonus point. With two wins they are hard on the Ikey’s heels. NMMU are gone, having collected a sad and somber 0 log points in three games.
