Victorians vs UCT in Stellenbosch

Victorians 20 : 21 UCT

UCT travelled to Stellenbosch on Wednesday 16 May to take on Vics at the Danie Craven Stadium. UCT, with a number of crucial injury woes, were fielding a number of new recruits and second team players. A new cap to Mathew Rosslee at flyhalf for the first team, coming up from the U20 side to fill in for the injured Gareth Wright. Rito Hlungwane out with a broken thumb saw promising youngster Mike Ledwige back in the starting 15.

The game was an incredibly physical match, with both sides putting in
some incredibly big hits. The game was a ding-dong battle with both
sides rarely moving out of the area between both teams’ 22-meter areas.
The game was tight, with both teams exchanging tries and penalties on a
regular basis. Stellenbosch scored in the last 5 minutes to put them
20-14 ahead. UCT, being the tenacious side that they are, never gave
up, an absolutely brilliant individual effort by James Richards, some
great footwork saw the elusive fullback slice the Stellenbosch line
with an ‘inside-outside-slide-through-the-non-existence-hole’ step, to
score. A nervous Mat Rosslee stepped up to knock the conversion over to
ensure the UCT victory. UCT won 21-20.
