UCTRFC Old Boys – Whatever happened to Nick Maurer – Ikeys 97-01
Remember Nick Maurer the Ikeys number 9 at the turn of the millenium? Some say he was a scrumhalf trapped in a flank’s body, all we know is had the Ikeys pack in his day been able to wheel the scrum and force the opposition No 8 to break into Nick’s channel, there would have been a shortage of 8men in WP rugby and Dave Ricketts might have been a Springbok!
Name / Nickname: Nick Maurer
Played at varsity when, what positions and for what teams: – U21 A1, 1st Team , Nick was also Club Captain 2001. At the club 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 (Ed: why is it written liek that? it will help you search for years at a later stage)
Where are you now and what are you doing?: I am finally back in Cape Town after 7 years in London – busy starting my own business.
Best varsity rugby memory?: Defeninitely thrashing a strong Villagers side at Brookside in the 2001 season and rubbing their noses in it in the bar after!
“I was renowned for”: Strong tackling, scoring tries, erratic place kicking, dodgy passing – all good scrumhalf qualities
Any guys you are still in touch with? lots of them
Do you follow the UCT Ikey Tigers and the Club?: Yes, will definitely be up at the Green Mile to support the boys this season!
