UCT vs NNK was a messy game – 13 knock on’s by the Ikeys in the first half say it all. Nevertheless, the Tigers were up by 11 points early in the second half and should have put the visitors away, but instead they allowed NNK back into the scrappy game, which went to the wire, but was clinched eventually by a penalty for a 22:19 full time score.
UCT, who just two weeks ago were so clinical and accurate against Hamiltons’ kept disrupting their rhythm with mistakes and gave NNK chances time and again. There were excellent phases of play of course and they showed the quality the students can produce – the visitor’s defense was rattled and UCT scored three excellent tries, that looked all to easy.
The rest of the game however was stop start and a big mess.
