UCT Super League fixtures

With the Varsity Cup having come to a sudden end for UCT, the club slowly adjusts its focus to the Super League which is about to start and promises to be as fiercely contested as ever. UCT’s old rivals Tygerberg sadly have been relegated to the SL B and Kraaifontein is the new kid and unknown entity in this year’s competition.

If rumours can be believed SK Walmers have lost the support fo their major sponsor and have subsequently also lost the services of a number of quality players. NNK on the other hand appear to have tapped into a new pool of funds and managed to attract a strong squad for the season.

There have also been a lot of changes at Villagers, a number of players have moved to False Bay and their squad has changed quite dramatically. False Bay, a Super League B side drew with the UCT A team (report here) and managed to beat Super League A side Helderberg the week before, which may give an indication of the latter’s set-up. The league starts on the 4th of April for most clubs, UCT join on the 18th of April.

UCT A have another training match scheduled for Saturday end and take on Victorians, Maties second stringers. Vics are in a similar situation as UCT A, consisting of a number of older players, not eligible for the Varsity Cup which is an U25 tournament.
