The WURIT competition brings together the leading university rugby teams from across the globe, providing a platform for student-athletes to excel and fostering camaraderie among participants from diverse backgrounds.
In the round-robin stage, the Ikey Tigers will face tough competition from New Zealand Combined Universities, the University of British Columbia, USA All-Stars, the University of Bordeaux, and Sydney University before entering the knockout phase. All games will be live-streamed by the hosts, with details shared on our social platforms closer to the time.
A group of 34 players and management, lead by tour head coach Robbie Fleck, departs for Paris on 17th September. This will be a first trip overseas for a third of the squad, many of whom have been looking forward to this tour for 4 years.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the WURIT promotes a spirit of global friendship and cultural exchange. Players will have the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals, engage in local outreach initiatives and immerse themselves in French culture.
This is a wonderful opportunity but also an expensive one and is entirely funded by the Club with players contributing where they are able to. The primary fundraising initiative for the tour is a raffle which the players themselves will be driving.
The prize is a luxury Botswana travel package for 2, courtesy of Natural Selection Safaris, valued at over R200 000. Please consider buying a raffle ticket (or 3!) and supporting our students for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Once an Ikey, always a Tiger!
