The UCT RFC U20 side has had an extraordinary season. Coaches and players came together as one, delivering outstanding performances throughout 2025.
Like any season, there were highs and lows, but one thing is certain — this was truly a season for the history books.
Varsity Cup
Our young guns impressed in the 2025 Varsity Cup, making it all the way to the final where they narrowly lost to Wits. This marked a historic moment as it was the club’s first-ever U20 final since the competition began in 2011.
Super League A
Falling just short in the Varsity Cup only fuelled the team for the remainder of the year. They went on to remain unbeaten in the 2025 U20 Super League A, winning the title for the first time since 2018. To top it off, they claimed a memorable victory over Maties in the 2025 Intervarsity clash.
What an extraordinary season it has been!

UCT RFC U20 Season Review – 2025
The UCT RFC U20 side has had an extraordinary season. Coaches and players came together as one, delivering outstanding performances throughout 2025.

Varsity Cup
Our young guns impressed in the 2025 Varsity Cup, making it all the way to the final where they narrowly lost to Wits. This marked a historic moment as it was the club’s first-ever U20 final since the competition began in 2011.
Super League A

Coaches Season Review: UCT U20A Cubs – 2025
Season 2025 was one of remarkable success for the UCT U20A Cubs. What began in the heat of October 2024 with preseason training culminated beautifully on the Green Mile in August 2025, in classic Cape Town rain and wind.
What stood out about this group was not only their immense talent but also their diversity. Young leaders from across the country came together, and this spirit of inclusion proved to be a key ingredient in our success.
In a historic milestone, the Cubs reached their very first Varsity Cup U20 final after a tense campaign. Although they fell just short against a resilient Wits U20 side, the experience provided invaluable lessons and marked the beginning of a new era for the team.
The league campaign soon followed and gave the Cubs the perfect chance to put those lessons into practice. Over 12 games in five months, the team went unbeaten, needing to topple three-time winners Hamilton’s Rugby Club or long-standing rivals Maties to claim the title. In the end, they beat both in tight encounters—securing the league for the first time in seven years. The victory over Maties also delivered the prestigious Hedley-Adkins Trophy, sealing an extraordinary season with a record of 14 wins from 14 league matches and 19 from 22 overall.
We are extremely proud of what the Cubs achieved this year. We look forward to watching our senior players continue their rugby journey and to seeing the next generation carry forward the standards set in 2025.
