UCT lift Mark Jordaan silverware

On target – with a try and a penalty, UCT wing Paul Cohen

The Ikey Tigers again showcased the depth of the club beating rivals False Bay on Friday 18-10, despite an injury list of 14 players following sixteen matches on the trot.

It was a cold night on the Green Mile, which was wet and heavy underfoot and The Bay brought their usual fire, but tries by Paul Cohen and Nick Holton – who converted his effort and two penalties saw the students through.

Flank James Tatham and young fullback Ross Jones Davies caught the eye for the home team which was again lead from the front by lock Levi Odendaal.

The UCT Eagles had to settle for a hard fought 14:14 draw – as did the 3rd team, the Ish Dramat Wolves who also tied 9:9.

The UCT A1 Trojans faced a much improved Bay outfit but were up 13:3 at the half looking to use the second spell to claim a much needed bonus point. Two more tries followed, but with time running out, it seemed that the Trojans would be denied the bonus point. With two minutes remaining right wing Dylan Sage, handed off a desperate False Bay defender, sped down the right-hand touchline and scored an unconverted try in the corner, to claim the bonus for the young Ikeys 30 – 3.

The 1st team team has now played eight Varsity Cup matches and eight league matches and will have a much deserved break following the Maties vs Ikeys showdown on Saturday at the Danie Craven stadium.
