UCT friendlies start on a high

On Saturday UCT teams started their series of pre-season matches against the visiting Young Peoples, a Super League B side from Paarl. Young Peoples – ironically also a “Tigers” club were promoted to the Super League B in 2008 and ended a solid 8th last season. UCT A had too much experience and fire power for the spirited visitors and won 55:19 on a windy afternoon.

UCT B and C as well as the U20s all had good wins against the visiting Young Peoples Tigers. For UCT A, veterans Dave Edgar at center and Dave Clayton at fullback had excellent games and Rob Hopwood, just back from injury and on early for the injured Justin Bijl scored a hattrick. The UCT A forwards dominated the scrums at will putting the backline on the front foot, lineouts were a gamble however with the howling wind. All in all a good start and build up for next week’s annual clash with False Bay, for the Mark Jordaan Memorial Trophy.
