UCT fend off NNK

UCT 35 : 34 NNK

The game between UCT and NNK was scheduled for the Saturday, fortunately the game got cancelled, torrential downpours and strong winds, turned the ‘UCT wind tunnel’ into an inhospitable field. Both teams agreed to re-schedule the game for the following Wednesday. Luckily fine weather and sunshine had dried up the field for the Wednesday game.

NNK fielding a relatively young backline, but still fielding a very
well drilled pack, took to the field enthusiastically, getting onto the
scoreboard early on. Once again UCT was engaged in a ding-dong battle
with NNK. However some individual brilliance by James Richards saw UCT
play some exiting running rugby.

Also prominent was Rob Hopwood who
showed his incredible speed to score a try. James Martin on the
opposite wing also showed some skill in fielding a grubber kick by
James Richards, a deft touch with the boot by the left wing saw James
score under the poles.
UCT were fairly dominant throughout the first half of the game. NNK
replied through some skilled and well drilled forward rucking.
Unfortunately UCT took their foot of the gas in the second half,
letting NNK back into the game.

NNK scored repeatedly, finding them on
the verge of drawing with UCT. A final try on the final whistle, due to
some sloppy tackling by UCT, found the NNK kicker step up to ensure a
draw. Unfortunately the NNK kicker, who had missed repeated conversion
attempts, once again failed to convert and thus allowing UCT to win the
game 36-34. A much needed bonus point.
