UCT excited to kick off after successful preseason

The FNB Ikey Tigers have officially wrapped up their preseason run after a challenging game against False Bay RFC on Saturday, the 30th of January. What was always going to be a physical and testing match has allowed the team to keep building on the momentum they’ve gained and left head coach Hanyani Shimange proud of the continuous progress his team has made.

“We’re happy with the performance,” Shimange said, “We rested some of our players and we also picked up a few injuries along the way, but that’s to be expected. We’re also happy that the guys just keep getting better and better with every game they play.”

Reflecting on their journey so far, Shimange had this to say: “We had a really good camp and preseason overall. The players had fun and although they already knew each other, they got the chance to get to know one another even better. In terms of our culture: we all know where we’re heading. We’re all on the same page here.”

“We had a nice run out against the Stormers, and a tough match against False Bay.  But now we know that we’re right there physically, we know that we’re ready for the season,” he added when commenting on recent performances.

Looking towards the approach of the new season, coach Shimange noted that the entire camp is buzzing ahead of their opening match. “The mood around the camp is that of pure excitement. We watched the Varsity Shield and the guys can’t wait until it’s our turn to step out onto that field.”
