The UCT Rugby Football Club ended their season on a high note this past weekend as they defeated Hamiltons Rugby Club to end the second half of their season undefeated. They end their season at the top of the log with their old foe Stellenbosch the only team capable of pipping them to the title. They play Durbell on Wednesday.
The U20A side can be incredibly proud of themselves having achieved another season in the league undefeated. They defeated Hamiltons 45-7 running in seven tries to Hamiltons only one. This side have once again proven that the future of UCT rugby looks very bright indeed.
The Bears tasted only their 4th defeat of the campaign against Hamiltons 3rd XV side that were clinical in attack. They made the most of a few errors made by the Bears to capitalize on 22-14 victory. Despite their loss, the Bears have done enough to end the season in 4th position and ensure themselves a spot in the playoffs.
The Eagles ran in seven tries to Hamiltons two to notch up their 12th win of the campaign. The final score in that match 43-22. They end the season in 3rd place on their respective log and are set to compete in the upcoming playoffs.
The UCT 1st XV, the Ikey Tigers, defeated Hamiltons 36-5 to put themselves on the top of the log once more. They too can be immensely proud of their season with their only loss of the campaign having been against their old foe Maties.
The UCT Rugby Football Club will go into their annual celebration with this weekend with lots to celebrate as they look towards a bright future. It’s safe to say that the club has reestablished themselves as one of the powerhouses of Western Cape rugby and will be looking to hold onto that title going forward.
The 1st XV will travel to Japan for the University World Championships with a lot of confidence as they look to defend their title in that competition.
