UCT Bounce Back with Huge Win

The Ikey Tigers bounced back from their Intervarsity defeat with a clinical 64-5 win over SK Walmers in the fifth round of the Western Province Super League on Wednesday.

The win allows the Tigers to regain the momentum they have gathered so far in the league, and continue their impressive form.

The side had an impressive first half, leaving the Walmers scoreless until late in the last quarter of the game, and while coach Kevin Musikanth states that there were no stand-out performances per say “Ross Jones-Davies and James Alexander marshalled the troops, and once again “The Godfather” Paul Days’ scrum dominated,” he said.

In contrast from their Intervarsity game against Maties, which the Tigers just lost out, the coach explained that the team were “consistent in all aspects of the game.” The game took place on the Green Mile, and the massive support from their home crowd was sure to spur the team on, allowing them to perform so well. Overall, Musikanth describes their performance as “electric” and worthy of praise.

Such was the game that the SK Walmers Twitter handle @SKW_Rugby congratulated the Tigers on their performance saying “Well Done @ikeytigers on a clinical performance last night. You guys are on a roll and play attractive rugby. Keep it up FT score 64-5.”

Next up, the Ikeys are set to take on UWC at home on Saturday afternoon. UWC currently lie in 13th place on the log having won just one of their five matches, while UCT are in 2nd place, just a point separating them and Maties.
