The UCT Ikey Tiger’s away form seems to be en par with last year’s impressive runs, when they started today with a whopping 5 log points and 39:21 win at TUT – Tshwane University of Technology.

The Ikeys scored some fantastic tries and played excellent rugby in patches convincingly beating the Pretoria outfit in this high-scoring affair.

Western Province fullback Tiger Bax who was “tested” at center by coaches Rob Fleck and John Dobson created plenty of opportunities for his team mates and countless problems for the TUT defense. Fullback Therlow Pietersen, who still featured for Maties in last year’s Varsity Cup final scored twice for the blue and white visitors.

TUT were up 6:0 after two kicks some minutes in, but the the Ikey Tigers soon found their rhythm and scored to be ahead 18:11 at the break. The home side fought back with two tries after the break, but it was UCT who finished stronger scoring a total of five tries to three.

Flyhalf Matt Rosslee had a much improved showing with the boot and added 14 points to the tally. UCT flyer “marvellous” Marvin Christians and hooker Mark “The Goose” Goosen also put themselves on the scoresheet.

Tiger Bax put the result beyond any doubt when he showed some great running to find his way over the line untouched with barely a minute to go.
