Ubumbo Rugby Festival at UCT
The Second Annual Ubumbo Rugby Festival will be taking place at the UCTRC Fields from Friday the 2nd of October, culminating on Saturday 3 October.Teams participating this year will be Ubumbo, The University of the Western Cape (UWC), Ikhaya and all the way from the Eastern Cape will be the Walter Sisulu University of Technology (WSU).
The Annual Black Cherry-Ubumbo Charity Car Wash will begin festivities on Lower Campus at 14:00 on Friday.Proceedings will then move onto upper campus at 17:00,with an opening and welcome function at the UCT Pub.The first game of the festival will be a clash between Ubumbo and UWC kicking off at 19:30.The clash between Ubumbo’s fellow internal league campaigners, Ikhaya and the visiting WSU is scheduled for 20:45.The second day of the festival will begin with a light lunch at 12:30, and the first game at 15:00 between Ikhaya and UWC, with the closing game being Ubumbo vs WSU at 16:30.An awards ceremeony will then be held at the UCT Pub from 18:00 to end off the weekend.
After last year’s success,it was only fair that we make this an annual event.Though teams are fewer, the event will definitely be bigger.Unfortunately,Fort Hare could not make it this year due to provincial commitements that most of their players are involved in.No doubt that WSU will be the perfect substitute.UWC and Ikhaya are also newcomers, and their impressive records in the past season has made them the perfect recruits in this festival.
