Steinhoff Tornadoes convincingly saw off the Steinhofff Harlequins by 21-0. Both teams took the field excitedly, but it was the hosts who came out on top at a windy Green Mile.
The Steinhoff Tornadoes scored in the sixteenth minute of the first half through the quick-footed Achumile Masalaba, who evaded multiple tackles before sliding home. They did go a man short in the 23rd minute after Yale Jameson received a yellow card, but that did very little in slowing them down.
Seven minutes into the second half, James Pagden helped the hosts double, with Ty Wills scoring his second conversion and making it 16-0 to the Steinhoff Tornadoes.
The Steinhoff Harlequins pressured the Steinhoff Tornadoes, looking for a way through their solid defence, but there was none to be found. Then, with seven minutes left to play, Masalaba found himself in space and sprinted towards the tryline for his second try of the day.
“I’m very proud of the boys. They put in a solid performance. Defensively, we were brilliant: we had to defend on our line for almost ten minutes and they got nowhere near it,” said Edward Gregory, coach of the Steinhoff Tornadoes.
