Round 6 wrap and logs – road to the semis
Round six had Maties make it six from six with a big win against NMMU and Pukke smash the winless TUT away. UJ held on against Tukkies in the rain and UCT just beat Shimlas.
Maties march on. Will the Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch host the final again?
UCT vs Shimlas (Green Mile) 23:20
Too close for comfort for the Ikeys, but four points are four points and see the Tigers through to the semis. A bonus point win would have put the Ikeys clear and booked them a home semi final with a game in hand. UCT still have it in their hands to confirm their home semi with a win, or a bonus point loss, but will forfeit that advantage if they lose by a margin of more than 9 points, with their last opposition Pukke taking a five pointer.
Shimlas need a miracle (Tuks and UJ to lose plus get a huge margin – about 60 points which is hardly possible) when they face TUT to still grab a semi final spot.
UJ vs Tuks (UJ Stadium, Jozi) 9-3
Unversity of Johannesburg clinched this tryless mudwrestle in the rain. This puts Tuks under severe pressure and UJ back in with a chance.
UJ play NMMU away and should take full points. Tuks, who have now been winless for the third game in a row now face the Maties at the Danie Craven Stadium. If Tuks lose again, UJ should be in the semis.
TUT vs Pukke (TUT Stadium, Pretoria) 56-14
Pukke breezed past the hapless TUT by 7 tries to 2 and booked five vital points towards their log tally. Pukke now moved to third and booked a semi final spot.
Pukke face UCT at home in Potch and the result will determine who they face in the semi finals – if they lose, they might stay third or end fourth depending on Tuks and UJ, a win with a full five points can even see them clinch second spot and a home game. TUT are bottom of the log and will stay there going into relegation with little chance of points playing Shimlas at home.
Maties vs NMMU (Stellenbosch) 58-3
Maties made no mistakes and booked another five pointer which puts them firmly to the top of the log and guarantees them a home semi final. They play TUKS at home – a win will see them end as log leaders and a win in the semi’s will mean the final will be played in Stellenbosch again. NMMU play UJ in PE.
