Giles White was a fearless loose forward who played for the Ikeys for many years, including captaining the side. He remains a big supporter of Ikeys Rugby. UCT Vice-Chancellor hosts dinner in honour of Ikey Tigers

After returning from more than 30 days in a bio bubble in Pretoria, the UCT Ikey Tigers were invited by the UCT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng to a celebratory dinner at the UCT Graduate School of Business on 14 June 2021.

“Ja-Nee: The story behind the game” by Ikey legend, Dugald Macdonald

Ikey legend Dugald Macdonald publishes a book on his experiences of the 1974 Lions Tour. Dugald Macdonald is an Ikey legend both as a player and as an official of the club. He served the Club as President for fifteen years, presiding over an astonishing period of change in global club and university rugby.

Ikeys in the News

While local rugby has been fairly quiet other than the Rainbow Cup and Varsity Cup, the oldest provincial competition, the Carling Currie Cup started on Friday 18th June, with a premier division (a double round with semi and final). There is also a first division competition for the lower teams as well as an u20 section, so we expect a number of Ikeys to feature in the months to come.

Alan “Butch” Deuchar – Ikey rugby giant

Butch Deuchar is one of the best lock forwards to have played for UCT. That is quite a statement, but fully justified. Lock forwards do not fulfil their potential unless they have special rugby qualities. He's now leaving South Africa to move to France on a permanent basis and we caught up with him on his plans as well as his rugby journey.

Ikeys Rowing the Atlantic

Former Ikey Rugby players Martin Muller and Grant Kemp along with two other rugby teammates from Hong Kong will be participating in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge at the end of the year. It is a 4800km race from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua. They are doing this in an effort to raise money for their chosen charity.
