No place like home for Ikey Tigers

After two big away games UCT will finish their half with a classic derby against neighbours Villagers RFC tomorrow afternoon on the Green Mile.

A win will see the Ikeys move to second place in the log, trailing Maties by a small margin. With the Club Champs qualification now a confirmed Maties or Hamiltons affair, UCT are now focused on plucking away at the Grand Challenge.

Coach Kevin Foote who has to do without a number of players on WP or SAU20 duty, had to reshuffle his side a bit following the hard earned five pointer at the Bay, with veteran center Andre Coetzer back in the starting team. He is joined by Therlow Pietersen outside him, who switches positions with young Nick Holton who will wear the no10 jersey.

The UCT forwards are unchanged and will have to bear the brunt of what will be a fired up Villagers pack. Villagers, who are coached by former French international prop Pieter de Villiers have only played five matches so far and had some very close calls which has left them with three wins, and 13 log points to show for it.

Last year’s derby at UCT was very evenly matched and produced an exciting 67 points with UCT emerging 37:30 victors.

The UCT Eagles derby clash may be even more hottly contested  than the 1st team’s and Ant Fenton Wells’ team will be happy to have experienced center in Dave Edgar in the side, after the latter’s recent comeback.
