Ikeys beat Durbanville Bellville in Newlands

UCT vs Durbanville Bellville  37 : 5

UCT took on the newly promoted and replenished Durb- Bell side at Newlands on the 31st of March 2007. DurBell have recently been promoted from the B division and are hoping to challenge for the trophy this year. A definite new look Durb – Bell side took to the field, with new sponsors and a obvious influx of money and new players, Durb-Bell certainly are a worthy opponents and not to be underestimated.

The game started fairly slowly with both sides kicking for field dominance. Unfortunately for Durb – Bell UCT’s superior backline, with their speed and skill, were just too much to contain. Dave Edgar had an outstanding game with some amazing breaks, showing great speed and agility, to carve massive gaping holes in the Durb – Bell backline defence. The Ikey forwards did a very good job in moving the heavy and physical Durbell pack arond the park and also impressed with excellent work in the lineouts.

As usual UCT’s loose trio were outstanding, with Enoch, JJ and Jodi ensuring that the Durb – Bell ball was slow and often not there when the scrumhalf arrived. A try that stood out and that put the final nail in the Durb – Bel coffin, was set-up by a Richard Lawson break and off load to James Martin who ran 40 metres, around and through the Durb – Bell defence, to off load to long-time team mate James Richards. With a pressure inside pass, UCT sealed an emphatic victory over Durb -Bell at Newlands.Well done to the boys, a great victory to start off the season. Good luck for the rest of the year!
