With the grueling FNB Varsity Cup campaign wrapped up, the FNB UCT Ikey Tigers have shifted
their focus entirely to local territory—and the transition has been spectacular. As we reach the
halfway mark of the Western Province Rugby Super League A (SLA) season, the 1st XV have
asserted themselves as the team to beat, sitting proudly at the top of the league standings!

The Mid-Season Record

UCT currently occupies 1st place on the SLA log, holding a hard-earned lead over traditional
rivals Maties, Villager FC, and Hamiltons. Our record speaks for itself:

  • Matches Played / Won / Lost: 9 | 7 | 2
  • Total Points Scored: 298 (46 Tries)
  • Total Log Points: 36

Key Takeaways from the First Half

  • Bonus Point Dominance: Out of 9 matches, the boys have picked up 8 bonus points,
proving our attacking intent remains relentless in every fixture.
  • Defensive Fortitude: While the 46 tries scored have been a joy to watch, our defensive
structure has anchored this campaign, conceding the fewest points among the top-tier
    teams.
  • Squad Depth: The coaching staff has rotated beautifully, blooding standout performers
from our championship-winning U20 Young Guns squad straight into the 1st XV
    environment.

The Road Ahead

The job is only half done. The second half of the season promises an intense race for the top
four. Crucial upcoming fixtures against SK Walmers, False Bay, and a highly anticipated mid-week
clash against Tygerberg will ultimately dictate who takes home the trophy.
To the Ikey faithful: your support on the Green Mile has been our 16th man. Let’s keep the momentum rolling!
