Leyds and De Allende trial for Green and Gold

 

Ikeys fullback Dillyn Leyds and center come wing Damian de Allende have been called up to trhe SA U20s and Springbok 7s squads respectively. 

Dillyn Leyds who scored a total of 8 tries this Varsity Cup is with the South Africans U20s, who are currently together for a two-week training camp, which includes two internationals against the Argentinian Pumitas, plus a midweek clash comprising mostly Under-19 players.

The training camp is in preparation for the IRB Junior World Championship 2012, to be held in South Africa from June 4 to 22 in Cape Town.The remaining matches against Argentina are scheduled for next Tuesday and the following Saturday.

Meanwhile hard running Damian de Allende has been added to the injury-hit SA Sevens squad with immediate effect. He is one of several Varsity Cup stars that have been called up to the team of skipper Kyle Brown – also a former Ikey. Coach Paul Treu said he was disappointed to lose players such as star playmaker Afrika, but he was also looking forward to work with the newcomers.

"They all played exceptionally well in the Varsity Cup and the Vodacom Cup and deserve their chances.

"We have a number of injury concerns so it makes sense for us to include these promising players," explained the SA Sevens boss.

The Blitzbokke depart on Sunday, April 29 for the United Kingdom and will announce their traveling party on Tuesday, April 24. The Blitzbokke are currently third on the World Series log, behind New Zealand and Fiji.
