Invite to UCT Ikey Tigers vs UFC Shimlas | 8 February 2016

To kick-off 2016 in style, the Ikey Tigers Supporters Club is inviting all Ikey Old Boy’s to a free VIP match experience on Monday 8 Feb, where our beloved FNB Ikey Tigers will take on the returning 2015 Varsity Cup Champions FNB Shimlas.

The fixture presents a repeat of the 2015 Varsity Cup Semi Final, where the Ikeys narrowly lost out to the FNB Shimlas (10-21) in a tightly contested affair. With both teams marked as favourites to take the Varsity Cup in 2016, they will both be looking to establish early dominance in the tournament. Suffice to say, Monday’s fixture is set to be a no-holds-barred affair.

Old Boy VIP Experience:

Pre-Match

To ensure you get to soak up the full Varsity Cup experience, all Old Boys are invited to join us at 17H00 in the Ikey Pub. It is here that our die-hard supporters tend to congregate for some vital pre-match refreshments and to share their predictions on the upcoming game.

The Game

Next, to make sure you get a true VIP experience, we have demarcated and branded a section in the stands (next to the highway) exclusively for Old Boys. We will head over to the stands at around 18H30. It is here that you will be greeted by a lovely hostess, who will get you settled for the start of the game with a few complimentary ice cold beers and a generous helping of biltong.

Post-Match

Finally, after the game, all Old Boys are invited back to the Ikey Pub for post-match drinks. It is here that you will get a chance to catch up with old friends, chat to the Ikey management team; and most importantly, celebrate with the players on what we hope to be a well-deserved win for our boys.

To our loyal supporters in Joburg, we say get on a plane – it will be worth it.  For the more conservative of you, however, don’t fret. We will be looking to do something similar on March 7th in Johannesburg, when the Ikeys take on UJ in another highly anticipated Varsity Cup clash.

Note: The Ikey Pub will strictly run as a cash bar.

Parking:

The Club has prioritised the securing of exclusive parking for Ikey Old Boys on match days as a key objective in 2016. In the meantime, there are a range of parking areas across campus, including: those located behind the UCT Sports Centre, those located along Residence Road, and those situated below the UCT Rugby grounds. It is advised that guests arrive as early as possible to avoid delay.

What to Look Forward to in 2016:

The Ikey Tigers Supporters Club committee has a number of exciting plans for 2016, including the hosting of events in Cape Town, Johannesburg and London. We have a special group of people whose blood is properly blue and white (headed up by Ikey legend John le Roux) that are finalising the Club’s membership structure. The primary objectives of this new initiative, however, is to build the Ikey Old Boy community, and actively remind our Old Boys that there will always be a spot for them on our beloved Green Mile.

Immediate Plans:

The Club is looking to have its own identity, by offering members exclusive memorabilia. The project has just reached the design stage, and we’d love to have your input on what you would like to see in the Ikey Store in 2016. Something we can chat about on the 8th! In the interim, we ask that you please don as much blue and white as you can possibly muster in support of our boys.
