The Ikey Tigers will take on a resurgent Durbel on Saturday on the Green Mile. While UCT has had a good showing against Heineken Cup quarter finalists Saracens last week, Durbel managed to upset Maties in a midweek fixture.
Durbel had been UCT’s first league fixture of the season and the stundents had impressed with a solid 29:9 away win. The cards will be reshuffled as UCT will try to keep their home record clean against a visiting team that will certainly look for another upset.
Flyhalf Matt Rosslee is back from his stint with SA Universities, as is Therlow Pieterson, who will play center on the weekend. Rosslee’s return comes at a crucial time, as last week’s man of the match and flyhalf / center Oli Braithwaite has fractured his foot and looks to be out for the rest of the season.
Dave Clayton who also had a solid showing last week against Vics will again marshall his backs from the fullback position. Hanyani Shimange and JJ Gagiano will get another shot at Saracens, playing for a Western Province XV, so won’t be available. Dayne Jans and Dane Johnson are both in the mix for WP U20.
Christ Darby takes over at hooker and will scrum down with a new look front row. U20s hooker Matthew Page looks set for his first team debut as a replacement. Outside center Dave Edgar is rearing to go after an injury and should see some game time off the bench.
Most of the UCT teams will be in action, come out and support the blue and white!
