Ikeys sweep aside Tygerberg

UCT cantered to a comprehensive 38:3 victory at Tygerberg on Saturday, scoring five tries in the process.

The game started extremely well for UCT when Richard Steward crossed the whitewash after only three minutes to set the tone for plenty of entertaining running rugby. Ross Jones Davies converted to make it 7:0 and put the blue and white on the front foot. The full back also added the next three points minutes later and was again at hand with two points to convert center Andrew Norton's try shortly after.

The Ikeys were now up 17:0 and clearly keen to push for more. Next it was the creative axis of Dillyn Leyds and Tiger Bax that struck again, when the flyhalf played a sublime offload to Bax who cruised under the posts to set up an easy conversion – 24:0.

Tygerberg got a penalty and opted for the three points and were up against it chasing a 24:3 decifit at half time

The second half was a bit less explosive than the first one, with scrumhalf Dilyn Frylinck scoring and Jones Davies converting to wrap the game at 31:3 a few minutes after the restart.

The game finshed as it had started with dangerous Richared Steward crashing over for a second and a final conversion going over for the bonus point result of 38:3.

Up next are Maties for Intervarsity on Saturday at 4pm at UCT – a treat of a game! Maties managed to hold off Durbell at Cotzenberg on Saturday, winning 35:31 – a similarly tight match to the Ikeys vs Durbel game last Wednesday, which the latter of course won 20:17.

Scorers:

Steward 2, Norton, Bax, Frylink,

Kicks: Jones Davies
