As part of the Varsity Cup #ShowUs campaign, the Ikeys took in a recent U14 SACS vs Wynberg game, hoping to showcase the real meaning of community rugby.
Wanting to give back to our local community (these two schools are huge feeders into our rugby programme), our Ikey Tigers not only watched the game, but had a great chat to the youngsters afterwards, reminding them that it’s not only about rugby, instead about being part of an amazing community that looks after each other, both in good, and bad times.
South Africa is a nation in need of unity and action. Challenges loom large, but so do opportunities for change. It’s time for every one of us to step up and make a difference. And the Varsity Cup #ShowUs campaign does exactly that – all universities who play in the now iconic tournament, participate in community outreach programs, or align with existing projects within our campus.
During each Varsity Cup match, the player of the match from the previous game proudly wore a pair of pink shorts. More than just a symbol of winning man of the match, these pink shorts are a beacon of hope, raising awareness for worthy causes close to our hearts. This year it was about amplifying awareness for the chosen #ShowUs causes, and inspiring others to join the movement.
We’re shifting the focus from problems to solutions, from apathy to action.
