Ikeys Ready to Run Out One Last Time

The FNB Ikey Tigers will bring their 2016 league run to a close tomorrow when they take on Hamiltons. While the match might be inconsequential in the greater scheme of things, neither of the two teams will be taking it lightly so this promises to be an entertaining game.

“This game won’t affect our league position, but we’re expecting Hamiltons to come out and play a bit more than they usually do. We’ve got nothing to lose, so we’re also going to be playing good, positive rugby so it should be a good match,” said head coach Christiaan Esterhuizen.

“We won’t be experimenting or trying out new things this week though. We played really well for seventy minutes against Belhar but just didn’t have the experience to see the game through,” he added.

The mood around the camp is relaxed as they approach the end of what was a challenging season. “We’ve had a relaxed week so far, fun but at the same time serious, with the training sessions being player driven,” explained Esterhuizen.

“We have a good record against Hamiltons, they haven’t beaten us a while so we’re feeling good going into this one.”

After this, the boys will turn their attention to the President’s Cup and the looming preseason training. “We’ll rest a few guys, mostly the ones who will feature in next year’s Varsity Cup. I want to give the players a good amount of rest before we start with preseason training again, so the team will be a young one and we’ll try some new things and have fun,” he concluded.

The FNB Ikey Tigers are set to take on Hamiltons on Saturday, the 27th of August at Green Point at 16:00.
