Ikeys play for International Universities Babas ahead of B&I Lions test

Three UCT players have been included in the Universities Barbarians squad to face Sydney University next month reports SARugbymag.co.za

The match will be a curtain-raiser for the third Test between the Wallabies and British & Irish Lions in Sydney on 6 July. It will also raise funds for Sydney University, who celebrate their 150th anniversary.

UCT flyhalf Ross Jones-Davies (pictured), lock James Kilroe and fullback Lihleli Xoli will make their way Down Under on 1 July to meet up with the rest of the squad, which will include players from other top universities around the world. The trio will be the only South African representatives in the group.

Former UCT coach Kevin Foote, who stepped down after this year's Varsity Cup, said the players deserved this opportunity after showing good form this season.

'While we didn't have the best of seasons, Ross, James and Lihleli all did well during the Varsity Cup,' Foote told SARugbymag.co.za. 'They are exciting talents and will benefit from this experience.'

Jones-Davies added: 'We'll get to travel and meet players from other parts of the world. This is an exciting opportunity for us – one we will cherish.'
