Ikeys mourn tragic loss of Josh ‘JJ’ Jacobson

All at Ikeys rugby are deeply saddened about the tragic loss of Josh 'JJ" Jacobson who passed following a car accident over the weekend. We extend our condolences to his family in this sad time.

JJ’s funeral service will be taking place on Thursday 11 September 2014 at 15:00 – Assembly of God People's Church in Spaanschemat Road Constantia. Many of JJ's Eagles team mates have committed to attend.

Josh was a fantastic club man, having played U20s, 2nd team and also some 1st team matches for the Ikeys. He was also an integral part of the recent USSA tour to Grahamstown. Josh, a 2nd year Bcom Student at UCT was a bursary holder at the rugby club this year.

Gunner Hughes the former Ikeys U21 and current Villagers headcoach remembers

"I was fortunate enough to meet Josh whilst coaching at SACS High School. He was a slight, but very exciting player to watch. After leaving school, he moved to the Sharks academy. After spending some time at the Sharks, he decided that UCT was the way forward for his rugby career, and he joined the u20 Trojans setup.

This is where I really got to know Josh in more depth. He was quiet, incredibly hard working and always gave of his best. He had a real passion for rugby and was committed in making it in the professional circles one day. In his year at the Trojans, he matured both as a player and grew in confidence as a person. He became a very popular member of the team and often made us laugh for his night job at Beefcakes (His team mates were actually jealous).

I will sorely miss Josh for both his passion for the game, and his love and loyalty for people.
RIP JJ"
