UCT celebrated a full sweep of wins at Bellville Tech on Saturday with the Ikey Tigers beating the home side 22:10
While the Tigers had to work hard for their win in wet conditions, the UCT 2nd team Eagles ran in a mass of tries for a convincing 75:0 victory. The thirds also got a valuable bonus point, winning 25:3, as did the UCT Tojans who played to a 20:0 scoring four tries.
In the 1st XV match, flying Dylan Sage crossed the line for UCT only a few minutes in and the Ikeys went up 5:0.
Bellville Tech who's kingpin, evergreen scrumhalf Bolla Conradie used all his experience to play the muddy conditions, struck back to take the lead 5:7 following good prossure and a 5m attacking scrum.
The game continued to be scrappy in the wet with both teams adding a penalty for a 10:8 half time score. The clouds opened up and UCT found their rhythm in the second half, when flyhalf Ross Jones Davies drew the defense to put away 8th man Vince Jobo who crashed over under the poles to regain the lead for the students – up 15:10 with the easy conversion added.
UCT kept applying the pressure and marched a 20m maul over in the corner with Jones Davies adding the difficult conversion for the final score of 22:10.
The Ikeys are well in the hunt for the league title, sitting 4th with two games in hand on the leading duo of Hamilton and Durbell.
Up next is a trip out to Stellenbosch to play Victorians on Saturday.
