Ikeys lose tight battle with Hammies

FNB UCT went down by just one point – 17-18 – to Hamilton's in their tight WP Super League clash at the Green Mile on Saturday.

The Ikeys, the defending WP Super League champions who claimed a dramatic win over Hammies at this selfsame venue last year, were leading 17-6 at one stage in the second half.

However, the visitors staged a hard-fought comeback to score two late tries and secure the narrow one-point win.

Ikeys flyhalf Ross Jones-Davies who is in great form, scored all of the points for his team, with one try and four penalties.  Unfortunatley that was not enough as the home side came up just short in a thrilling match.

The loss leaves the defending champions in a tough position, with plenty of hard work in front of them if they want to move up from their current sixth position on the log, although they do still have a few games in hand over their rivals.

It won't get any easier for the students this week, as they host log leaders Durbell on Friday night.
