Ikeys held to muddy draw

The Ikey Tigers were held to a 19-19 draw by a plucky SK Walmers side in WP Super League action at a cold Groote Schuur on Friday evening.

UCT led 13-10 at half-time, but were unable to put away their opponents in the second half.

Both sides scored one try each, with Marcelo Samson finishing off a try from the halfway line outsprinting the SK cover defense. SK Walmer’s try came off a pick and go phase at close quarters. Both tries were converted, with Matt Rosslee kicking a further four penalties.

While there was no wind to speak of, the conditions were not conducive to any kind of running rugby, as the pitch had been turned into a mud bath in patches. UCT dominated the line-outs and scrums but were put under pressure at rucktime by the streetsmart visitors.

Idris Arendse and Naas Prinsloo kicked two penalties each for the visiting side, but UCT had their chances to win the match in the dying stages, only to twice lose the ball over the goalline.

For UCT big Yaya Hartzenberg had a man of the match performance mixing up strong runs and drawing defenders, with well balanced passes to support runners.

I’m not sure exactly why but this blog is loading incredibly
slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end?
I’ll check back later and see if the problem still exists.
