Ikeys finish strongly at USSA week

Kevin Foote's young Ikeys team finished their USSA tournament strongly when they beat hosts and new Varsity Cup inclusions Wits by 26:9. 

The Wits game was labeled a breakfast fixture, played at the unorthodox time of 8.30 am and UCT were up early and kept a lead throughout keeping the hosts tryless. 

The tournament has been a valuable learning experience for the young and up and UCT coming talent who went down to Pukke and Maties by less than five points and with a good chance of winning in both clashes. The squad is now back in Cape Town, prop Digby Webb tweeted: "awesome week at SASSU with the Ikey Tigers, Such good gees, and a great group of people!" 

In the end it was the Varsity Cup champions Tuks who added another trophy to their cabinet after beating Pukke in the USSA week's final.

UCT rivals Maties also came away with only one win, after going down to NMMU and Shimlas. Ikeys coach Foote said: "We knew we would go up against Varsity Cup sides but we did have a chuckle when we found out we'd be playing against the Maties. They also had a young side, with Louis Blom in charge, but all UCT-Maties clashes are big."
