Ikeys excited to kick back into action
After the two-week long postponement of the FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International, the FNB Ikey Tigers are about to resume their season in spectacular fashion, with a match against rivals FNB Maties at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. “There’s a positive vibe around the camp, everyone is really excited to be playing matches again,” said Guy Alexander, captain of the FNB Ikey Tigers.
“To be honest, the break came at a good time for us. A few of our players had picked up some injuries but they’re back with the squad and ready to play again.”
During the two weeks off from the Varsity Cup, the team made sure they kept their sharpness in preparation for when the competition resumed. “We had a friendly game against Milnerton last week, and it was a good win for us. We’ve kept our match sharpness and hopefully it will give us some confidence moving forward,” said Alexander.
“We’re excited to play at Soccer City. It is a derby against Maties and there is some excitement around that, but we’re still focusing on ourselves and we’re looking to get back to enjoying our rugby. The result will take care of itself as long as we play the type of rugby we enjoy,” Alexander added.
The FNB Ikey Tigers team that will take on FNB Maties is as follows:
15 Khanyo Nguckana, 14 Sebastian Roodt, 13 Lihleli Xoli, 12 Rico Lategan, 11 Nathan Nel, 10 Thomas Bednall, 9 Dylan Tidbury, 8 Guy Alexander (C), 7 Luke Stringer, 6 Jason Klassen, 5 Gary Porter, 4 Jade Kriel, 3 Joel Carew, 2 Brenton Greaves, 1 David Maasch
Substitutes: 16 Sean Paterson, 17 Msizi Zondi, 18 Mark Prior, 19 Duncan Saffy, 20 Steven Wallace, 21 Rob Anderson, 22 Suwilanji Chibale, 23 Samuel Theron
