Ikeys destroy poor Helderberg

UCT today demolished a hapless Helderberg team by 52:14 and have now made it three wins from four games. It was yet another good outing for the club, with almost all teams victorious.

The Ikey Tigers had a solid performance and were dominant from the start. Helderberg are bottom of the log and haven’t been competitive as yet, so it was good to see there was no complacency in the Ikeys side, who piled on the points.

The team was lead by flank Jody Burch, in the absence of captain Bodo Sieber, who was away on international duty for Germany, playing Russia in the Six Nations B. Burch is back in the team after Western Province lost in the Vodacom Cup quarter finals, as is winger Dane Johnson, who was rested against Helderberg along with Nick Fenton-Wells.

UCT ran in nince tries, with the pick of the day coming off a Matt Rosslee cross kick which Pieter Engelbrecht caught on the 22m line to shrug off a would be tackler and run it home.

Intervarsity in Newlands is next on the schedule on Saturday 9th May – the remainder of the club will play their matches Friday.
