Ikeys beat Club Champs Durbel

The FNB Ikey Tigers beat newly crowned Cell C Community Cup Champions Durbel RFC by 25:20 and three tries to two in an excellent match played in Durbanville on Wednesday evening.

There were extra bragging rights at stake when the 2014 Varsity Cup champs and the 2015 Community Cup champs went head to head on Wednesday night.

It was a hard and honest Super League match and both sides came out the blocks firing and hosts Durbel lead 13:12 at the half. UCT scored three tries though efforts of Richard Stewart who played in the unusual position of fullback, as well as Luke Stringer and the Varsity Cup 'Forward the Rocks' Jason Klaasen and in the end the extra try compared to Durbel's two five pointers proved the decider.

Flyhalf Warren Seals converted two tries and Nicholas Holton kicked two penalties.

Well done to the Ikey Tigers 2nd team who also beat a strong Durbel 2nd XV by 13:10. Both the U21 and U19 sides lost on the night.

The Ikey Tigers who beat 2014 Community Cup champs Impala Plats in a pre-season friendly in January and again flew the flag of Varsity Rugby against an open club heavyweight.

Next up the Ikeys will take on SK Walkmers on the Greenpoint Track on Saturday
