At last year’s Tens.
The Ikey Tigers 10-a-side team is raring to go ahead of this weekend’s Castle Cape Town Tens, with team captain Craig Kleu giving us a little bit of insight into this well-balanced squad.
Kleu – or ‘Krusty’ as everyone knows him! – is one of many experienced and talented players in the side, with a host of the players (Kleu, Pallo Manuel, Enoch Panya and JP Robert) having played at some sort of representative level at some stage.
Robert, in particular, will be a player to watch as the Ikeys campaign in the CT Tens Premier League, as will Ian ‘Army Armstrong’ and Rick ‘I Will Win’ Race. Krusty also reckons that former Wynberg legend Gary Cox – in his comeback – will make a big impact! (Time will tell Krusty – but are you talking about on the field or in the Beer Tent?!)
Players like Robert, Armstrong, Jannie Bester, André Goosen and Trent Jenkinson – to name just a few – will also be hoping to get some game time this weekend; especially with the 2010 Varsity Cup on the go and the chance of a call-up always a possibility in this great game.
Ikey Tigers legend and 2009 league captain Bodo Sieber – the German international – has unfortunately pulled out of the squad as he awaits the birth of the heir to his throne; perhaps he will name his son Castle Cape Town Tens?
According to Kleu, this UCT line-up has one defining characteristic; they have more UCT players in the starting line-up than False Bay! (Ouch!)
