Hiring – Lineout and Defence Coach

Role:

Young Guns (u20) Lineout and Defence coach

About the role:

The description of the role is fairly simple. You will need to own the departments of lineouts and defence. To truly
own these 2 departments, the following expectations and commitments will need to be met:

  • Work closely with all players involved in the lineouts to upskill them individually and coach our lineout
    options and understanding of when to use each option.
  • Coach our defensive pattern and core fundamental defensive skills required by individuals to excel in the
    system.
  • Develop good relationships with all players so that they trust and respect your guidance and coaching.
  • Attend all the training sessions leading up to Varsity Cup 2023. Training sessions will take place 3 or 4 times a
    week.
  • Attend all matches and training sessions during the Varsity Cup competition.
  • Attend all training sessions and matches during the Western Province Super League.
  • Work closely with the head coach and first-team coaching staff to ensure that what you are coaching is to a
    high standard and aligned with the way the team is wanting to play and what the club is implementing as a
    whole.
  • Work in unison with the other coaches in the Young Guns set-up to create a cohesive team.
  • Perform analysis of our own lineout and defence in previous games, as well as opposition lineout and attack
    play to best, prepare the team for future matches.

What you need to bring to the table:

  • Prior experience in coaching lineouts.
  • A deep understanding of how to coach and run lineouts and a passion for constantly improving this
    department.
  • Prior experience in coaching defence is preferable but not a requirement.
  • A keenness to be a part of an energetic coaching team.
  • A love for the game of rugby.
  • A willingness to take a mentorship role with young players to help them grow as rugby players and as
    individuals.
  • The ability to always look for solutions in a positive and constructive way.
  • The ability to attend all evening training sessions and matches and be on time for these events.
