Helderberg no match for Ikey Tigers
The relegation bound Helderberg did not pose a threat to the Ikeys who cruised to a 17:3 half time lead and finished with a bonus point and a commanding 40:3 win on Saturday.
It was a good day on the windy Strand fields for all UCT senior teams, with the Ish Dramat XV and the Eagles also winning their respective matches. Next Saturday UCT is gearing up for their ‘semi final’ against the rugged Dubel who took Maties to the wire losing narowly 18:19 last week.
For Helderberg, there is sadly no way now to still remain in the SLA, as they only have two matches left and can not over take the second last seated league new comers Belhar.
On Saturday UCT was simply too powerful, especially out wide, where vice captain Therlow Pietersen got his name onto the scoreboard, as did Richard Steward, André Coetzer and Zandy Macdonald. Winger Mark Winter went over for a brace and Nick Holton had an excellent day with the boot.
Skipper Don Armand lead his young pack from the front again with Wes Chetty and Greg Mallett putting in the hard yards.
The final fixturesfor UCT are Durbel, Belhar and Victorians and the students will need 14 log points from these three must win fixtures to challenge for league honours.
