FNB UCT Return To The Green Mile To Take On FNB Wits
Andile Majola
In round 5 of the FNB Varsity Cup the FNB Ikey Tigers are back on the Green Mile against a determined FNB Wits side as the race for the playoffs intensifies.
Since their re-introduction to the FNB Varsity Cup, the north-south derby between FNB Wits and FNB UCT has certainly been one to watch.
FNB Wits have got the better of their southern rivals in the previous two fixtures between these two sides and FNB UCT will be looking to end that streak when the sides meet on Monday.
Neither side has tasted defeat thus far in the competition which means both have it all to play in the quest towards earning a home playoff.
FNB UCT come into this fixture off the back of a very hard fought 44 all draw against FNB CUT in Bloemfontein in round four.
Although they’ll certainly be disappointed in the number of points conceded in that match, there are also a lot of positives to take out of it as well. Most notably the never-say-die attitude that has been synonymous with this side throughout the season.
FNB Wits’ season has followed a very similar trajectory with a couple gutsy narrow victories themselves, with their most recent being a 27-24 victory over FNB NWU.
Even though neither side may come out of this fixture with their unbeaten streak intact, one thing we know for certain is that both sides will leave it all out on the field on Monday.
The Cubs will get our Monday Rugby That Rocks underway when they take on the FNB Wits Young Guns, as they look to hold onto their number one spot on the log.
The match kicks off at 7pm and tickets are available for purchase online through Webtickets as well as at the gate. The Ikeys Pub and Grind will be open serving food and drinks throughout the night.
