FNB UCT Hit The Road

Andile Majola

In round five of the FNB Varsity Cup the Ikey Tigers travel down to Shimla Park to take on the FNB Shimlas. Now they say that lightning never strikes in the same place twice but this match-up has an eerily electric feeling to it.

The last time these two sides met in this competition the scenario was more or less identical. Both teams placed at 4th and 5th on the log and both teams hungry to get themselves into a playoff position come the end of the season. The only difference this time around is the venue.

FNB UCT head over to Shimla Park off the back of a very impressive victory over FNB UJ which saw the Ikey Tigers pick up their second bonus point win of the competition. Their set piece has been phenomenal this season and has really allowed the backline to show how dangerous they can be when they receive good, go forward ball.

Nyasha Tarusenga may be wearing the pink shorts but the opposition will have their hands full trying to keep their midfield contained if Robbie Ball shows the same flair he did against FNB UJ.

The home side FNB Shimlas will be looking to give their home fans something to smile about after their tough loss at home in the previous round against FNB NWU Pukke. With the skills and experience of previous Springbok U20 flyhalf Lubabalo Dobela leading the line they will be a dangerous side to play against.

FNB Shimlas stole the victory away from home the last time these two sides and the Ikey Tigers will definitely be looking to give them a taste of their own medicine. Both of these sides narrowly missed out playoff spots in 2018 so both will know how important a win in this match will be to change their fate this time around.

The game kick off at 18:30 on Monday evening and you can follow the Ikey Tigers’ Twitter for scores and updates.
