FNB Ikey Tigers Travel To Wits For Must-Win Clash
Andile Majola
Round seven of the FNB Varsity Cup sees the Ikey Tigers travel to Johannesburg to take on a struggling FNB Wits team.
FNB Wits have a strong record against the men from the Cape having won all of their recent match ups in the competition since their promotion in 2017.
In 2019 however that record may be broken as FNB Wits have struggled thus far in the competition only registering one win in five. They also face an Ikey Tigers side that know that nothing less than a win will be good enough on their quest to make the playoffs in 2019.
The last time these two sides met FNB Wits walked away with a narrow 26-30 victory away from home down at the Green Mile in Cape Town, and FNB UCT will definitely be looking to avenge that result.
The Ikey Tigers have struggled thus far on the road in the competition, losing back to back away fixtures now against tough opposition but the men from Cape Town will be feeling confident going into this fixture that there are points on offer.
The Ikey Tigers have scored the fourth most tries in the competition as things stand and will be happy with their structure thus far this season. The set piece has been strong and the backs have capitalised on the good go forward ball the forwards have put on offer.
This is set to be an epic encounter as both sides are desperate for a win as we move towards the business end of the competition. The match kicks off at 16:45 on Supersport 1. The Ikeys Pub & Grind will be screening the match so be sure to come down and support the boys. There will be food and refreshments on sale.
