FNB Ikey Tigers Ready for A Challenge
After last Saturday’s game was cancelled because Sir Lowrians were forced to forfeit the match due to admin issues, the FNB Ikey Tigers face a stern test tomorrow afternoon when they host an in-form Victorians side.
Sharing his thoughts on the game ahead, coach Christiaan Esterhuizen was well aware of the strength of their next opponents. “They’re in very good form at the moment. They recently beat Hamiltons (who have been one of the top sides this season) and managed to beat Primrose by 80 points,”
“They’re a team that likes running the ball. They’ve got a squad of playmakers and a very good backline. They play attractive rugby, watching them play is actually enjoyable,” he added.
“We’re planning to put a lot of pressure on them, so we’ll make sure our line speed and discipline are up to scratch. We’ll play a good territory game again and do our best to pin them in their own half and keep them there. Hopefully the pressure will make them slip up and we’ll create some chances,” Esterhuizen said when discussing how he plans to nullify the Victorians’ attack.
“We’ve lost quite a few Province players, like Gary Porter and Cullen Callopy, as their tournament starts this Friday. A few other players might get called up as well, so our team might be a little weaker this time around and we probably are the underdogs going into the game, but we’ll always keep fighting and go for the win,” he said.
Since Sir Lowrians forfeited on Saturday, the FNB Ikey Tigers will be going for their third victory in just as many games for this half of the season. They are set to host the Victorians 1st XV on Wednesday, the 3rd of August at Groote Schuur A. The match is set to kick off at 15:30.
