UCT Ikey Tigers went down 17:20 to the strong Durbell team on Wednesday in a great, evenly matched high intensity affair. 

"It was a fantastic game against high quality opposition, not a single off the ball incident, a great Club Rugby match" said Lisa Gagiano the Ikeys manager. She added "We left 6 points for kicks out there that were probably decisive, but then again Durbell are marked as the team to beat this season and we look forward to hosting them later in the year." 

Durbell went into a 10:0 lead at the half building on their superior scrum power, but in the second half UCT upped the ante made up for the inferior weight of their pack with speed and dominance at the break down. A lovely break by Tiger Bax resulted in a class try by flyhalf Dillyn Leyds, with the conversion by Ross Jones Davies bringing the students back into the game at 7:10. 

Shortly after the teams traded penalties, with UCT slotting a long range effort through center Andrew Norton to keep the scores close at 10:13. 

With twenty minutes on the clock Durbell scored again to go 10:20 ahead and would have thought they had the match wrapped, but winger Richard Steward (pictured) had other ideas and finished an excellent break to bring the scores to 17:20 –  including the conversion by Jones Davies – with minutes to go. 

The Ikeys now had the momentum and camped on the Durbies try line trying to force a win, but time ran out for the willing Tigers. 

The UCT Eagles impressed in one of their crunch matches and pur Durbies 2 away by 32:8 to book a valuable bonus point. A1 Trojans won a valuable close victory at 22:17 outscoring their opposition by 4 tries to 2. UCT 3rds lost a tryless arm wrestle 0:9.
