Durbell too strong for Ikeys

UCT was defeated by title bound Durbell at the Green Mile on Thursday, going down 13:36.

For a change the wind was not much of a factor at the Mile on Women's Day, but the hard running and composed decision making by the visiting Durbell was. The visitors put together a convincing 80 minute performance and were simply too strong for the Ikeys building a commanding 19:3 lead ahead of the break.

A try to scrumhalf Dylan Frylinck  saw the home side claw their way back into the game just after half time and reduce the deficit 19-13 but their challenge was snuffed out by two quick Durb-Bell tries shortly after. UCT fought bravely keeping the visitors tryless for the last 20 minutes and worked hard for opportunities to score, but the Durbell defense stood firm.

The defeat comes as a blow to the defending champions who lost to Hamiltons by one point last week, whilst Durb-Bell will be delighted having extended their lead at the top of the standings in a season that has seen them put a first ever double against Maties.

UCT now have a week off with next Friday the 17th also the day of the annual UCT RFC Black Tie Dinner – over 200 guests are confirmed,  be quick to secure your booking.
