COBRAS MAKE YET ANOTHER FINAL
The Steinhoff UCT Internal League has become so popular that it brought Springboks Sevens Captain Kyle Brown out to watch the Cobras reach yet another Final.
On the evening it was a match that both teams had a chance to win. Wild boys took an early lead through the boot of Tim Carr after Wild Boys won a penalty on the 22m of the Cobras. Immediately Cobras hit back with a converted try manufactured by warren Butler and James Bailes as their winger finished of their move. The early stages were played in Cobras half as wild boys had majority of the possession. The cobras struggling abit with their scrumming as wild boys took advantage with another penalty by wildboys no 10. seeing deficit reduced to one point. After the restart some good work by Jamie Manuel from the lineout (initialy) saw cobras score through some good running diagonal running by Raubenheimer which saw Bailes eventually finishing the move and saw his team go into the break leading 14-06.
From the restart the Steinhoff Wild Boys worked well from the scrum which saw a perfectly weighted Sonny Bill pass from Carl Jansen to Chris Davis who then scored and now narrowing the Cobras lead. Steinhoff Wild boys now trying to get momentum as the deficit was now only three points kept on making silly mistakes hampering progression. The Cobras now taking advantage of the all the Wild Boys mistakes, took a quick tap to which saw Dale Dunn break the wild boys defence and what we thought was a definite try only to her the sound of the referees whistle as he blew up Dale for knocking on.. Another mistake from Wild boys flyhalf saw his clearance kick land in the arms of Mikhail Maasdorp, who then sprinted for the wildboys try line. Now with 5 minutes to play the Wild boys played like their lives depend on this match pulling out all the stops. Their unforseen errors are really seemed to cost them the match. Cobras kept on absorbing the pressure eventually holding out for a 19 – 11 victory and a place in the Final
