Burch boost for SWD Eagles
Strong-running Western Province and Ikeys No.8 Jody Burch, has joined the South Western District Eagles.
“Jody has arrived and looks raring to go. He is a strong and aggressive player who could prove to be a huge acquisition for us. Jody is the type of player that could set my pack alight,” SWD coach Johann Lerm said.
Lerm also indicated the chances are good that both Burch and Samoan Junior Leota, could make their debut against the Pumas in Witbank on August 7.
Leota is also known as a very aggressive player and with him and Burch to call on, Lerm’s side could be the one to watch in the First Division.
The SWD Rugby Union earlier indicated promotion to next year’s Currie Cup competition was not negotiable – and president Stag Cronjé has put his money where his mouth is.
The Eagles have now already signed eight new players from outside the Southern Cape. Lerm’s side have beaten the Border Bulldogs and the Griffons in their first two league matches.
