Bax and SA Varsity Sevens at World Student Games

Ikeys center Tiger Bax was part of a strong SA Varsity Sevens side that competed in the University Games at Kazan in Russia.

The 12-man squad was captained by NMMU fullback Jarryd Buys and includes former Springbok Sevens international Ryan Nell, Bradley Moolman who represented the SA Under-20 team in 2011 and Tiger Bax who has played Super Rugby for the Stormers.

The South Africans played three training matches in Kazan – against France, Canada and Italy before starting their pools fixtures on 14 July. They beat Namibia and then Latvia on the opening day and finished their pools commitments with a win against Japan.

The SA Students beat Belgium 26:12 in the quarterfinals with Bax scoring one of the tries at Kazan.

The team faced hosts Russia in the semi finals – a team that featured seven of the countries senior Sevens players that played at the recent Sevens World Cup in Moscow.
