The History of Ikeys in the Varsity Cup

The Ikey Tigers finished top of the Varsity Cup log for the 2021 group stages. They played 8 games and won 8 with one game cancelled due to Covid and called a draw - remaining unbeaten until the final. This is the first time since the inception of the Varsity Cup that Ikeys have gone unbeaten leading up to the knockout stages.

There has been a tradition of competitive games between the two traditionally English universities. When Wits first took part in the Varsity Cup they initially struggled, but since 2017 the Ikeys had not beaten Wits and the two teams have been very evenly matched.

Ikeys Rowing the Atlantic

Former Ikey Rugby players Martin Muller and Grant Kemp along with two other rugby teammates from Hong Kong will be participating in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge at the end of the year. It is a 4800km race from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua. They are doing this in an effort to raise money for their chosen charity.

Ikeys are mourning the sad and untimely death of Gary Grant, ex Ikey player and administrator, and one of our staunchest supporters. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Our hearts and sincere condolences go out to his wife Debbie, daughter Jamie and son Dean.
