The second half of the Super League A campaign proved to be a stern test of character across the club. Coming off the mid-season break, the squad found it challenging to regain early momentum, resulting in a demanding run of fixtures where fine margins repeatedly decided crucial points.
For the First XV, it was an undeniably tough stretch, dropping six out of six matches in the second round. Yet, despite the scorelines, the commitment never wavered. Nowhere was that grit more evident than in the razor-thin battle against SK Walmers, high-stakes encounter where the Firsts fell by just 3 points, alongside the Second XV, who were edged out by a mere 2 points.
Milestones & Silver Linings
Amidst the challenges, the club celebrated a monumental milestone: inspirational leader Sipho Dyonase earned his 100th cap for the Ikey Tigers in a memorable clash against Kuils River. Reaching a century of appearances in the blue and white is a rare and prestigious feat, reflecting years of uncompromising leadership, durability, and heart on the Green Mile.
The Under-20s provided a brilliant silver lining for the club’s future, showing immense resilience to secure 4 wins from 6 matches in the second half, including a thrilling, hard-fought victory over SK Walmers. Coupled with steady, competitive performances across the Second and Third XVs (highlighted by a determined draw for the 3rd XV against SK Walmers), the pipeline of talent at UCT continues to show immense promise.

Looking back at the complete Super League A campaign, the season was a true story of two halves. The first half saw the Ikey Tigers setting a blistering pace, carrying strong momentum and demonstrating the explosive brand of running rugby the club is known for. However, post-break hurdles, player turnover, and narrow losses tested the depth and resolve of the entire squad during the run-in.

The second half of the campaign brought tough challenges for the UCT Women’s side, but their fierce determination and team spirit never wavered. The standout highlight came in a thrilling, hard-fought victory against Rocklands, where the team put together a complete performance on both attack and defense. While the results in other fixtures didn’t go their way, the courage shown against top competition highlighted the team’s ongoing development. Their fight, resilience, and unwavering commitment to building the program remain a massive point of pride for the entire club as they lay down strong foundations for future seasons.
A season filled with narrow defeats and tough lessons only sharpens the appetite for what comes next. With a talented young core making strides and experienced leaders setting the standard, UCT moves forward with heads held high, ready to regroup and rebuild for the next challenge.
